We work with multiple certified partners in order to do our part in ethical contributions. Sustainability is a big key word within the coffee industry due to the impact that coffee growing, farming and processing has on the environment and we support this as much as we can through the coffee that we source.
In our continued effort to support the growers, environment, land and provide our customers with peace of mind, we support a range of credentials including Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and the Organic Soil Association. This means that we can ensure that the communities in developing countries producing our coffee beans are receiving fair payment, decent working conditions and conducting business that is locally sustainable. Look out for these certification marks on our coffee bags!
We are very conscious of the impact on the environment that plastic has and the responsibility of businesses such as ours has in limiting the amount of plastic being used and disposed of. All of our coffee bags are 100% recyclable as we believe that they are much better off being turned into something new instead of going into landfill or the ocean.
Ideally, we would love to use compostable bags and skip out the plastic altogether and we aim to in the future however this option is currently not widely accessible to most roasters. The current biodegradable bags on the market only degrade in industrial composting plants under specific conditions which are not accessible to the average consumer and sadly most end up in landfill too.
Our coffee bags are also certified carbon neutral which means that the C02 emissions created in the production of our coffee bags are compensated by reducing carbon emissions elsewhere. We want to ensure that the creation of our packaging contributes as little as possible towards greenhouse gas production in the global effort against climate change.
OUR RETAIL SHOP
We are based in Cambridge, UK and if you are local to us you can even skip the packaging altogether (the best option in our opinion!). Our retail shop has 18 dispensers featuring our bestselling blends and single origins where you can bring in your own containers to fill and pay for the amount by the gram.
At Coffee World, we care greatly about protecting the environment for the future generations to come. We all work with a conscious effort to minimise energy usage and waste and actively promoting recycling across all of our activities from roasting coffee and processing invoices to our engineer scheduling.
Every member of our team knows the important role they play in helping us achieve the goal of minimising our negative impact on the environment as much as we possibly can.
We work closely with ShelterBox as our chosen charity.
ShelterBox is an organisation made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right – that shelter from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. No ifs. No buts.
ShelterBox teams work with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and other essential items to support them in rebuilding their lives. Founded in 2000, so far they have supported over 1.5 million people in need of help and we are proud support the work that they do.
